Wait, did I dream that? Was Giancarlo Stanton of the Marlins wearing a protective guard on his batting helmet…that included a big “G” in the steel bars guarding his face?
Nope, there it is: a little research reveals that indeed, Stanton was wearing a monogrammed face guard at the plate this season. Apparently, Stanton has abandoned his fashion statement, at least for now.
I suppose we should give Stanton credit for a little creativity and personality, but–isn’t there a chance that walking up to the plate and showing the opposing pitcher your monogram might draw, shall we say, yet another inside fastball?
Seems like it might be a little self-defeating.
