A note for everyone who is bitter that player So-and-So did not get voted into the Hall of Fame: stop making arguments that “So-and-So should be voted in because he hit X home runs,” or “He had .YYY slugging average,” or “He made it all the way to Z,ZZZ hits.” It’s not the Hall of Numbers–it’s the Hall of Fame. The point of the place is to help fans remember the greats of the game. Thus, the only real criterion for enshrinement is simply: Is this player unforgettable? A lot goes into answering that question, and statistics are only part of it. If all you can say is “So-and-So had this stat,” you’re not making a winning argument.
